Who is this course for?

If you are a recent MTO M1x student:

This is a chance to get some extra time and coaching to clarify any sections your want more time on. You may arrive at a starting time that suites your needs. If you want the whole experience again then arrive about 07:40 a.m. Saturday morning for our 08:00 a.m. start . If you were fine on all of the day one content but want more work on day two then arrive at the start of Sunday. Best start times are start of day or right after lunch (01:00 p.m.) on either day depending on your needs. The test at the end of the course is optional for you. If you successfully complete the test then you will be given the CSC completion certificate if not already awarded. Many students prefer this extra time course to just the retest as it provides much more time and attention.

If you are a recent successful student from another CSC program:

This is a chance to get some extra time and coaching to clarify any sections you want more time on. As you have not directly seen our program before nor have we worked with you already we will expect you to attend the Thursday night and the complete weekend. (20 hours)

What is ‘recent’?

If you have taken the MTO or another CSC program it must have been within the last two years. For example for 2016 training you must have been a 2014 or 2015 student. For students from Sheridan or other CSC courses then please present your CSC grad certificate from that course. Former recent MTO need not have completed their prior course.

What if I am from another non-CSC course or already have some experience and want to register?

This offer is generally only extended to former CSC students. If you have not taken training or did from a non-CSC course then we suggest our full M1 to M2 program

If you took a non-CSC course or were trained longer than two years ago then email or call us. We may be able custom tailor an admission. Other conditions or fees will apply.

How long is the course?

If you are a recent MTO M1x student then as little or much of Saturday and Sunday as you want. Each day is 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. - same as on your original course. You get to choose anywhere from 1-16 hours depending on your needs.

If you are from another CSC course then it is 20 hours (Thursday night 06:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; in class Sat/Sun 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. riding)

What is the fee?

The fee is $275 plus HST, payable by Amex, MasterCard, & VISA. Contact us before registering to get exact registration information about pricing.

Why is the cost so much less than the regular M1 course?

The primary reason is the stand-by nature of the admission. After you register and are in our system you will be on a first come first offered wait-list. You will receive a phone call/text/email on a Thursday evening or Friday and be offered the chance to join the course that is starting that weekend (Saturday morning) if space is available. There will be no contact if there is no availability. If we offer and you are not available or don’t answer then you will simply move to the next available weekend. If for some reason things change for you and you can’t wait on standby any longer or the season ends then your fee will be refunded in full.
Also, you have already received a CSC student kit so we will not be supplying another.

What if I am joining from another CSC course and have to attend a Thursday night?

You may attend any Thursday night in advance of your riding portion. The class is not on a stand-by wait list. Only the riding portion. You must attend the Thursday night before your riding weekend. It is best if you attend a Thursday night as soon as practical after registering so you will be ready for your riding weekend.

Please explain the Stand-By list?

After you register and are in our system you will be on a first come first offered wait-list. In the Register Now area you will see only one course offering with a date range of the entire season - this is the entry you want.

What do I need?

Whether attending Thursday night or on a weekend you will be asked to bring a valid motorcycle permit (M1, M2, M).

You will also need the clothing and other items listed in the M1 FAQ information.

When should I show up?

When registering you will see a student Comments: field just above the price information. Please indicate when you intend to show up and your prior training location. You have 80 characters of space to tell us. (eg I want to show up Sat morning. I took the Sheridan course in 2014.) You will be contacted by our administrator to clarify your training needs and qualification

Can I get an insurance discount for my own bike?

This course is the Canada Safety Council's "Gearing Up" motorcycle training course, the only nationally certified motorcycle training course. Course graduates usually qualify for insurance discounts - check with your insurance provider. Upon successful course completion you will receive a Canada Safety Council certificate of graduation if you have not already been awarded one to show your insurance provider.

Who are the students?

The course is suitable for recent students of the M1X program at MTO or other CSC trainers.

What is your policy on CANCELLATIONS, TRANSFERS and REFUNDS - M1 Extra time course?

For M1 Extra time standby you may request removal from the list at any time and will be refunded in full. If you accept a place on a course then you are bound to that course.

If you no-show after accepting then you will forfeit your registration or may be re-admitted to the list for a minimum $50 transfer fee. Any refunds or credits for early withdrawal will be at the sole discretion of MTO.

Is there a waiver?

All students will be required to sign a waiver at the Thursday evening classroom session. Those aged 16 & 17 must bring a parent or legal guardian with them for the first portion of the classroom session.

Waiver Link: M1_Waiver_2024.pdf

For safety reasons, students who are not wearing the appropriate equipment will not be permitted to ride and will be withdrawn from the course. If students are withdrawn under these circumstances, they will not be entitled to a refund of fees.
