Motorcycle Basic Riding Skills:
M1 to M2 Training

The Motorcycle Training Organization is a registered not-for-profit organization staffed and managed by experienced and enthusiastic motorcycle instructors. MTOhp instructors are highly trained professionals! Certified by the nationally recognized Canada Safety Council "Gearing Up" program. They are dedicated to sharing their passion and knowledge to create safe and skilled new riders.

At MTOhp you will:

  • Enjoy learning to operate today’s motorcycles safely
  • Receive 20 hours of group instruction and riding, and lots of individual coaching
  • Gain an overview of safe riding gear, learn basic motorcycle handling skills and defensive riding techniques
  • Receive a Canada Safety Council student kit
  • Take the riding test for your M2 licence
  • Qualify for potential insurance discounts
  • The riding portion of the course will be done on motorcycles provided by Motorcycle Training Organization

At the end of the training session students will be given a riding skills test. Individuals who pass this test receive a graduation card. Students with a Class M1 will receive documentation to allow MTO to endorse their permit as a Class M2 after the 60 day minimum time they have held a class M1. See the 'What you Will learn' page for more details.

Three Hour Introduction

We also offer a “mini” introduction to motorcycling course. It is only 3 hours long and does not require an M1 licence. While it does not teach all the basic skills of riding, it will allow those who have always wondered if motorcycling is something they would like to try. A great opportunity to satisfy her/his curiosity.  See the 'What you Will learn'  page for more details.

More M1X Riding Time

Would you like some extra riding time to polish your M1 Riding skills before attempting the upgrade test? Did you take a Canada Safety Council M1 course from any provider within the last two years but would like some additional coaching or practice time. See the 'What you Will learn' page for more details.

M2 Exit: M2 To M Training

The M2 Exit Course is for the rider with an M2 Class Licence and some motorcycle riding experience, who is ready to upgrade to their Full M Licence. Our curriculum is MTO approved, and our MTO certified instructors will work with you to further develop your on road skills and safety. See the 'What you Will learn' page for more details.

Canada Safety Council's

Canada's source for Motorcycle Rider Training since 1974.

“I had a wonderful time this past Sunday finishing up my M2X training. Ian and Bill are very knowledgeable instructors and are there to help you along the way. They will gladly answer your questions or concerns and demonstrate by diagram or bike. I highly recommend the M1X and M2X training to anyone thinking about riding. These courses are intended to help you improve as a rider. Both M1X and M2X cover the fundamentals of riding and should be taken seriously for your safety and those around you. Best of luck to those who take the courses, stay safe!...P.S. If you can't take constructive criticism about your riding ability, consider horseback riding. You're given five years from receiving your M2 to get the full M license, so learn to ride and don't complain if an instructor calls you out. Cheers”
